Since man hailed his first cab, there has been the demand to compete for each and every fare paying passenger, now digital signage technology is spreading into the taxi cab industry, to assist in the domination of taxi cab advertising and promote a more enjoyable customer experience for each passenger.

Taxi cabs can offer interactive mobile experiences.

Previously the taxi cab industry has seen taxi top signs develop from the light boxes on the roof with the word “taxi” illuminated when the cab has no fare and switched off when carrying passengers, to full blown LCD screens on the roof of cabs that displays stationary images whilst the video is moving and video when the vehicle is stationary.

Now the technology does not stop there, inside the cab you are more than likely to see an LCD embedded into a headrest or mounted between the front two seats, these screens display ads for local attractions including; restaurants, hotels and cinemas. Some of these displays are touch screen, meaning that the passengers interact with the screen to get the information they require.

Connecting the screens via a 3G or GPS network will enable the system to provide the traveler with information that is relevant to the location they input into the screen.

Digital signage is set to rock the world of taking a cab, by providing in car entertainment during their journey and at the same time create an extra income stream for the taxi company.

Taxi companies can now benefit from this new technology by selling advertising space on the electronic billboards. This revenue stream is re-occuring with very little maintenance, the content can be updated when the cabs are in one central location or even over the wireless network.
